Science!

Today we had Science! It was a lot of fun and everyone seemed to love it. We saw some sheep brains and we learned about blood and how it works and why the heart is needed. And good job to the team Purple Pineapples, 

Who got to chill with popcorn. We also got to do experiments with ice, salt and sugar. It was fun :D.

Nine Letter Word

This is a great vocabulary game. It looks at how many words can you from the 9 letters. You must have words that are at least four letter long and use the middle letter in every word. You can check each guess you make and look at the answers once you have finished. Click shuffle to change the letters!

Women's Rights

In Erudite, we have been learning about Kate Sheppard and looking at why she is considered NZ hero. This has sparked much interest in women's rights in general. Emma, Carly and Matthew are all from the USA, and drew our attention to the fact there isn't a female role model on their money. Kate Sheppard is on our $10 note and we feel a heroine from the USA should be granted the same honour.

Our initials ideas about heroes!

The pink ideas are our initial ideas. We then watched the Kid President clip about heroes and added the black ideas. After that, we watched another clip about heroes and added the blue ideas. Finally, we wrote our own definition of what we think a hero is.

Wolf in the Wardrobe

We are reading a fantastic book in Erudite called 'Wolf in the Wardrobe'. It's about a boy who finds a wolf and needs to hide it from everyone, pretending it's a dog instead. However, a nasty clown is out to get him and the wolf back!

Art Deco Weekend

Mrs Stanley and Kate were both at Art Deco Weekend, last weekend. It was a great celebration of the 1920s/1930s and they both loved dressing up, dancing and eating! Napier had a devastating earthquake in 1931, and as a result, lots of the buildings were rebuilt. Now, Napier is the Art Deco capital of Napier and people from all over the world come to experience the beautiful architecture and history. 

Balloons

We have been making 'Hot Air Balloon' Art to display in our class. Each person has created a paper mache' balloon, painted it, taken a photo and learned how to instant alpha the photo, created a basket and written their goals on it. Phew! It was a long process and we are nearly done. Check us out in the paper mache' stage below.

Ben's Birthday

Thanks to Ben's mum for making Ben a delicious birthday cake for our class to share. Can you guess what the cake theme was?

Class Name - Erudite

After much debate in Room 18, we have decided to have the name Erudite. Erudite means to have great knowledge or show great learning. Perfect for our classroom. Check out the video we made to introduce our name to the school in Assembly. A big thanks to Quentin Livingstone, who did an outstanding job of filming and editing.
